Dumper trucks are one of the most popular types of construction machinery seen on site, apart from diggers. We have seen an increase in the amount of operators signing up to receive dumper training, but why should you invest in it? Find out which dumper courses we have available here at theDiggerland Plant Training School.
WHAT ARE DUMPERS, AND WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?
Most of you visiting our website will already know what a dumper is and what it’s typically used for, however for those individuals new to the construction industry, we will explain.
A dumper truck, also known as a dump truck or tipper truck, is used for carrying and transporting loose materials. This could include anything from sand, gravel or even waste from a demolition site. When paired with an excavator, the dumper truck is an efficient type of construction equipment to have on site.
A standard dumper truck is designed to effectively dump any material using hydraulic rams. These can be located at the front or the rear, depending on the type of dumper used. In this case, we are focusing on rear tipping dumper courses, so the Hydrema 912E will dump the load from behind the operator’s cab.
Depending on the type of dumper, the operator could be seen sitting inside the cab, or sitting at the rear of the machine, both ways will allow the operator to effectively use the dumper to its full potential. Manufacturers such as JCB, have recently started to offer stand-on mini dumpers. They will allow the operator to simply hop on and off with ease. The JCB HTD-5E electric dumpster is an example of this.
What types of dumpers are available?
Currently available on the market are the following types of dumper trucks:
- Rigid dumper trucks – often used for larger loads.
- Articulated dumper trucks – professional training is often required to drive these types of dumpers.
- Tracked dumper trucks – ideal on rough or uneven terrain due to the tracks on the dumper.
- Mini dumper trucks – can be operated by anyone that has a category B licence. They are used mainly for home and garden projects due to the size.
So now you know why a dumper truck would be used and which ones are available, it’s time to discuss dumper courses.
REAR TIPPING DUMPER COURSES
As we are seeing a lot of individuals signing up to our rear tipping dumper courses recently, we thought it would be useful to highlight what is covered on the course.
When you book onto our N205 rear tipping dumper course, you will understand how to operate a rear tipping dumper safely and productively. In this case, we use a Hydrema 912E when learning.
Individuals will also cover the following topics:
- Locating and identifying major components on the rear tipping dumper
- Conducting safety checks on site
- Conducting all necessary checks before the machine is in operation
- Preparing the dumper truck to safely tip and offload materials
- How to load and unload the machine for transportation
For the full course content overview, please feel free to view the course on our website.
Our rear tipping dumper courses run from 1 to 4 days depending on any previous experience. We can offer a one day worker assessment, which will just include the test for experienced operators. We will also accept any novices that have had no past experience at all!
Are there any requirements to book this course?
Most dumper trucks will only require you to hold a category B licence. However, you will not be able to operate one for work purposes until you hold a valid CPCS card (Construction Plant Competence Scheme).
Any dumper trucks over 3500kg, will require an operator to have a category C licence. This will include a rear tipping dumper such as a Hydrema.
