Health and Safety Courses – Important Courses for the Construction Site

Plant Machinery Marshal

The construction industry is one of the largest, yet dangerous sectors to work in. Similar to working in an office, and any other workplace environment there are many health and safety precautions to take. In turn, this will keep all employees safe. Luckily, there are a large variety of health and safety courses available from first aid to quick hitch awareness, if you’re working with construction machinery.

This week we take a look at the different health and safety courses available at the Diggerland Plant Training School, as well as hazards that should be spotted to keep workers from harm.

HEALTH AND SAFETY ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE

Health and safety is a priority in most sectors, but in construction, workplace safety can be a life or death situation.

With so many risks and hazards on building sites, risk assessments are vital to keeping construction workers out of harm’s way. Health and safety covers a range of reasons on a construction site including:

  • Falling from height
  • Operating construction equipment
  • Stress and Anxiety
  • Slips, trips and falls
  • Struck by moving machine or objects
  • Injuries caused by handling, lifting or carrying
  • Contact with chemicals
  • Contact with electrical equipment and electricity

There have been on average 61,000 non-fatal injuries to workers recorded each year according to HSE (Health and Safety Executive). The construction industry has also seen an average of 41 fatalities a year. 36 of those being construction workers. Most of these are caused by falling from a height. So there are plenty of things to look out for, to avoid adding to these statistics.

One of the best ways construction companies can improve health and safety is to offer training to workers. Which is where we come in…

Do you work on a construction site and are looking to expand your knowledge in the health and safety area? We have multiple health and safety courses available for individuals or groups to book onto.
