N214 Ride on Roller course – NPORS training course of the month

Roller course - NPORS

Road rollers are versatile, efficient and easy to use. Despite various models being available, they are also the easiest construction equipment to train on. Would you be interested in finding out the benefits of booking onto our NPORS roller course?

If you work on a construction site, or carry out road maintenance, then this course could be perfect for you!

WHAT IS A ROAD ROLLER?

As the name suggests a road roller is a type of construction machinery used to squash and roll materials. The machine is made up of two solid metal roller drums, and they can vary in size depending on the type of machine you require. The drums will also differ in shape, however this will depend on the type of roller being used.

Operators have the choice of:

  • Cylindrical rollers
  • Grid rollers
  • Pneumatic rollers
  • Sheepsfoot rollers
  • Smooth wheeled / static rollers
  • Vibratory / Tandem rollers

Here at the Diggerland Plant Training School we have a range of Tandem rollers suitable for operators to use. Our Ammann and Bomag rollers will be used at standard rollers, as well as the vibratory function to allow for extra compressing.

The primary use for a roller is to crush, knead or vibrate loose materials by applying direct pressure. They are perfect for use within the construction, agricultural and industries carrying out roadworks.

WHY WOULD A ROAD ROLLER BE USED?

Before any work is even started, the ground needs repairing. Construction sites need stability, and a flat ground to work on. Any uneven terrain can cause accidents. Using a road roller will compress the soil before work begins, ensuring there aren’t any air pockets below the surface that could cause disruption to work being carried out.

Road rollers are often used to level out materials such as asphalt, gravel, and dirt.

BENEFITS OF BOOKING ONTO OUR ROAD ROLLER COURSE

So now you know what a road roller is and why they are normally used, however what are the benefits of booking onto our road roller course?

A construction roller is one of the most popular types of machinery alongside excavators and dumper trucks. Having the correct training in place to operate a roller will open up a variety of job opportunities for any operator.

Another advantage of operating a road roller is that an operator will never know when it will come in handy. Not only is a roller fantastic on construction sites, however it can be used for more obscure tasks such as private landscaping work.

WHAT WILL OUR ROLLER COURSE INVOLVE?

Our NPORS N214 Roller course is perfect for anyone needing to operate a roller on a construction site or other similar projects. So what will an operator learn?

Our trainee operators will have the opportunity to cover:

  • Preparing the roller for use
  • Identifying and maintaining PPE

  • Operating the machine safely
  • Carrying out all end of shift and shut down procedures
